For third consecutive year, the Foundation took charge of the organization of the U.S. Hispanic Leaders Program, which is financially supported by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the United States. The 2024 delegation, composed of ten young professionals from the fields of strategic public policy development, artificial intelligence, defense and education, was accompanied by the political counselor of the Embassy of Spain in the United States, Eva Buendía.
Throughout the week, participants had the opportunity to hold high-level meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the U.S. Embassy in Spain and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
In addition, they learned about the socio-political reality of our country and the economic and commercial outlook from Charles Powell, Director of the Real Insitituto Elcano, and Jaime Montalvo, Director of International Affairs of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, respectively.
The agenda in Madrid was completed with visits to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the Acciona Campus and the Atresmedia Corporation.
The Salón de Embajadores of Casa de América hosted a welcome lunch offered by the Foundation’s Patronage, which included speeches by Alexis Hermosillo, mayor of the city of El Mirage, Arizona, representing the delegation, and the general coordinator of the Mayor’s Office of the Madrid City Council, Inmaculada Sánchez Cervera.
In Cadiz, the participants visited the campus of the University of Cadiz, where they met with the Vice Rector for Internationalization, Micaela Iglesias, and the heads of the Campus del Mar – CEI-MAR.
At the City Hall, the delegation was received by the first deputy mayor and coordinator of the Sustainable Urban Development area, José Manuel Cossi, the Councilor for Sports, Training and Entrepreneurship, Blue Economy and Industry, Carlos Lucero, and the Councilor for Accessibility, Nuria Álvarez, who addressed the main challenges facing the city and the public policies that are being implemented at the local level. They also visited the Rota Naval Base with Navantia. In the cultural field, the agenda was completed with a guided tour of the city, the attendance to a flamenco show and a lunch at the mythical Venta de Vargas, in San Fernando.
