2023 Edition
The 2023 edition of the U.S. Hispanic Leaders Program took place in Madrid, Bilbao and San Sebastian from October 22nd to 27th.
The program took place under the Spanish Presidency of the EU and the different meetings contributed to better understand two of the main Spanish priorities in Europe: the green transition and the drive for greater social and economic justice.
Throughout the week, participants had the opportunity to hold meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, where they were received by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Angeles Moreno and the Secretary of State for Ibero-America, Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Juan Fernández-Trigo, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and the Ministry of Health
In Madrid, the agenda included meetings with the United States Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, María Solanas, co-founder of the UN Women Spain Committee, and María del Carmen Barrera, Secretary for European Policies of the Trade Union UGT, as well as visits to the think tanks Real Instituto Elcano and European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), the Cervantes Institute, BBVA headquarters and the newspaper El País, where they had the opportunity to comment on politics and media with former correspondent in the United States and current director of the economic supplement Cinco Días, Amanda Mars.
Casa América hosted the welcome luncheon offered by the Chairman Josu Jon Imaz and the Board of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU.
The program finished in Bilbao and San Sebastian with visits to the Bilbao City Council, the headquarters of Mondragón Corporation and companies of the Mondragon cooperative group that included Orbea, and the Basque Culinary Center.
At a cultural level, the agenda included a gastronomic tour of the Madrid of the Austrias, a flamenco show and guided tour of Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum.
